About Henderson Counselling & Guidance Services
Previously known as South Otago Counselling Services (S.O.C.S.) 01/06/2014
How did it come to be and what was my motivation behind H.C & G.S?
All my life I had this passion for taking care of people who struggles with daily live stresses. I have never driven past any accidents without offering some sort of assistance to those involved and/or hurt in those situations. Through all this I struggled with my own inner self as I knew from a very young age I was different from other boys. It took years of pain and struggles to find my true self.
This only came to be after a near suicide attempt, but through divine intervention I received the help I was looking for without physically looking for it. After a week and a half in a psychiatric hospital in Dunedin, The Wakari Hospital, I found something making sense for the first time in 56 years. It was confirmed that I am a transgender female or as they called it, "gender dysphoria".
"The choices given to me were simple. Live the old me and be miserable my whole life and maybe succeed with the next suicide attempt or alternatively, accept who I am, live my life as a woman and find happiness. I chose the latter."
In 2014 I realized after numerous attempts, that my marriage is failing for other reasons beyond my identity issues. So, I started helping people find reason to live beyond their daily troubles. That I later realized was the origins of my passion and active counselling. I enjoyed what I was doing because there was no bigger satisfaction for me than seeing someone else turn from a sad and desperate life to being a happy person facing life head on.
